Our Mission

China Spring Theatre's mission is to build a cohesive team of young artists to collaborate, create, and communicate in an encouraging environment, evolving through empathy and reflection, and working to be successful, respectable members of our community.

Get Involved

The Theatre program at China Spring ISD offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the art of theatre both as a fine arts elective and through after-school performances. Nervous about being on stage? Students don’t need to be on stage to participate—our classes are designed to introduce students to every aspect of theatre production. From learning how to present yourself confidently to understanding the behind-the-scenes magic of set design and production, our program builds valuable skills in public speaking, collaboration, and creative expression.

Whether students enroll in the theatre class or are curious about joining, all students are welcome to audition for our after-school productions. Each year, we kick off with a fall production. Toward the end of the fall semester, theatre students team up with the choir for our "Soundcheck" event, blending music and theatre in an exciting collaboration. In the spring, students have the chance to participate in the UIL One Act Play competition. Competing against over 250 schools, our students gain invaluable experience in a creative and competitive environment, honing skills and building confidence on and off the stage.

UIL One-Act Play

Founded in 1927, the UIL One-Act Play Contest is the largest high school play production contest or play festival in the world. More than 14,000 Texas high school students in more than 1,200 plays participate. The UIL One-Act Play contest is a statewide theatre competition where Texas schools of similar size perform a play lasting between 18 and 40 minutes. Performances are judged by either a single judge or a panel, with competitions open to the public and held in stages: Zone, District, Bi-District, Area, Region, and finally, State. At each level, judges select three outstanding performances to advance, with only two advancing from Region to the State level. Individual acting awards are also given, and each school receives an oral critique from the judge following the awards. To maintain fairness and safety, the State One-Act Play Office has established rules and guidelines that all participants must follow.
