Welcome back! We are so excited to welcome students back to campus!
DROP OFF
If you are dropping off your student, please drop them off in front of the cafeteria. The front of the school is designated for buses.
CELL PHONES
Starting this school year, a new Texas state law (HB 1481) takes effect prohibiting the use of personal communication devices at any time during the school day (7:50-3:56). A personal communication device is:
Cell Phone
Smartwatch
Personal Tablet of any kind
AirPods
Pager or other electronic communication device
Phones must be stored away in the student’s backpack during the school day and MAY NOT be brought out at any time, including lunch and passing periods. Disciplinary consequences will be applied and are outlined in the handbook. A brief summary of the discipline is as follows:
1st offense - phone is taken up and student issued a warning. Parent may pick up the student’s phone
2nd offense - phone is taken up and student is issued 1 day of ISS (In-school suspension). Parent may pick up the student’s phone. Intervention plan developed to limit further offenses.
3rd offense - phone is taken up and student is issued 3 days of ISS. Parent/administrator conference is scheduled. Further Intervention methods discussed to avoid further discipline.
Parent may pick up the student’s phone.
4th offense - phone is taken up and student issued 5 days of ISS. Parent conference to discuss further disciplinary action.
EXCEPTIONS
A student has an IEP or 504 Plan that requires device access
A physician’s order is on file for a medical need
A school administrator grants permission for safety or legal reasons.
Class meetings will begin this week to discuss the new policy as well as go over other important facets of CSHS Policies and procedures. A school reminder will also be read aloud in class both 1st and 2nd period on the first days of school reminding all students of the new law.
REGISTRATION
Please make sure you have finished the entire registration process so your student can pick up their schedule on the first day of school. There are three required forms that will need to be signed by parents/guardians and students. Most people have already completed this during the registration process. The required signed forms are: High School Compact, Drug Testing Form, Student Acknowledgment for Handbook, Computer Network, and Bus Rules.
Current proof of residency must be on file as well. If your student has registered, but you have not submitted proof of residency the parent or guardian will need to provide a current water or electric bill in order for your student to start day one.
If your student is missing any part of registration, they will not receive a schedule for 1st period, and will need to report to the cafeteria to complete registration. If you have any questions regarding the online registration process contact Mrs. Courtney Lafferty at clafferty@chinaspringisd.net, or call 836-1771. School personnel will direct students to the proper area to pick up their schedule on the first day of school. Please see the counselor’s section for information regarding dual credit students.
